You can also use workgroups and HomeGroups side by side. However, Windows 7, XP, and Vista systems can all participate in a standard workgroup network configuration, sharing folders and accessing shared folders just like normal. As an enhanced version of a peer-to-peer workgroup designed for the new operating system, only computers running Windows 7 can actually participate in a HomeGroup.
